Everything described here is done with the panels your Mac already has.

We would rather answer plainly than at length. Below are the questions that come up most, grouped so you can find yours quickly.

About the guides

Is this about adding anything to my Mac?

No. Every procedure uses the panels macOS already includes: Finder, System Settings, Photos, Mail, iCloud and Time Machine. There is nothing to set up and nothing to keep running.

Do I have to pay to read?

No. The online chapters are open to read on this site at no charge, and always will be. The paid item is the printable e-book, which gathers the chapters into one document.

Which Macs does it suit?

Any Mac running a recent macOS with the storage screen under System Settings > General > Storage. The steps work the same on Apple silicon and on Intel machines, and on laptops and desktops alike.

How technical do I need to be?

Not at all. If you can drag a file to the Bin and open System Settings without help, you have everything required. Every term is explained where it first appears.

Is this affiliated with Apple?

No. Macalix Guides LLC is an independent educational publisher. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Apple Inc. Apple, Mac and MacBook are trademarks of Apple Inc., used here for identification only.

About the e-book

What exactly is the e-book?

The complete method in one printable document: every chapter, a one-page checking routine, and a reference appendix. It is written for the same reader and follows the same careful sequence as the site.

Which layouts are offered?

Two. The PDF is set for printing, with sensible page breaks. The EPUB is set for screens, with text that reflows to any size. You may choose either, or both, at order.

How is it delivered?

By email. Your copy arrives in your inbox after purchase, sent to the address you provide, and is then saved on your Mac like any other document. There is nothing to sign into and no subscription.

How much room will I recover?

We cannot say in advance, because it depends entirely on what is stored on your Mac. Some readers find a little, others a great deal. Results vary from machine to machine.

Can I share it with my team?

A single copy is for one reader. For up to five readers, the five-seat team licence covers a small group at a single price. Write to [email protected] if you need more than that.

What if it is not what I expected?

The e-book carries a fourteen-day refund window. Write to [email protected] within fourteen days of purchase and we will return the payment. Details are in the refund policy.

Safety and privacy

Is any of this risky?

The procedures are written to be reversible. Nothing is removed until a second copy exists, items go to the Bin before anything is emptied, and the never-touch list in the safety chapter keeps you clear of the parts that matter.

Do you collect my information?

This site sets no tracking cookies and makes no external requests. A single small flag is kept in your browser's local storage so the notice stays hidden after you dismiss it. See the privacy policy and the cookie policy for the detail.

Do you send marketing email?

No. We write to you about your own order and nothing else. If you ever want your details removed, write to [email protected] and we will act on it.

Still stuck?

How do I reach a person?

Use the contact page or write to [email protected]. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00 Mountain Time, and we reply within two working days.

Will you add more chapters?

When Apple changes a panel or a name, we update the chapters and note the change. Our editorial policy explains how corrections are handled and how the e-book is kept in step with the site.
