Macalix Guides LLC is a small educational publisher. We write one kind of thing: guides that help a reader understand what occupies a Mac, and how to reclaim the space that no longer needs to be there. Everything we publish is done with the panels macOS already includes.
We are not affiliated with Apple Inc. We are not a technology vendor, we do not sell anything that runs on your machine, and we do not offer remote help. We write, we test, and we publish a document you can read. That is the whole of the business.
Why this subject
Storage is the quietest problem a computer owner faces. It never crashes anything; it simply makes a machine feel cramped, one warning at a time, until the day a file will not save. The usual advice arrives in two flavours: buy a new machine, or trust a stranger's tool. Neither is necessary. A Mac already carries everything required to understand its own disk, and the skill of reading it takes an afternoon to learn.
Our aim is to teach that skill in plain language, and to leave the reader calmer than they began. We would rather be precise than exciting. If a chapter cannot say something honestly, it says less.
How we write
Every guide starts from Apple's own published documentation, then is checked against a machine running the current version of macOS. We describe what we can see and test. We do not invent numbers, and we do not repeat a claim we have not confirmed. Where the answer depends on the reader's machine, we say so plainly rather than offering a figure that would not hold.
Who writes it
We publish under role-based bylines rather than personal names, which suits a small publisher and keeps the writing steady across revisions. Three roles produce the work:
- The editor. Sets the sequence, keeps the language plain, and decides what a chapter does and does not claim.
- The researcher. Reads Apple's published documentation, tracks changes to the panels, and records what each screen does.
- The tester. Follows each procedure on a standard Mac, checks that the steps still work after an update, and flags anything that no longer matches.
What we publish
We publish written guides and one printable e-book. The guides appear on this site and are open to read. The e-book gathers them into a single document with a checking routine and a reference appendix, and is the one paid item we offer. Nothing else is published, and nothing is distributed beyond the e-book, which is sent by email after purchase.

What we believe
Three ideas run through everything we publish. First, understand before you act: measure the disk, name the group, then decide. Second, keep a copy: nothing is removed until a second version exists somewhere safe. Third, know when to stop: a Mac wants room to work in, and the reader who reaches a comfortable margin and stops usually ends up better off than one who keeps digging.
If those ideas sound like common sense, that is the point. Storage work is not heroic. It is patient, ordinary and, done properly, entirely safe.
