Cookie policy

A short policy for a short list. This site keeps one small flag in local storage so a notice stays hidden, and it sets no tracking cookies at all.

Everything described here is done with the panels your Mac already has.

Most cookie policies are long because the site in question does a great deal of tracking. This one is short because ours does almost nothing. The whole of it is described below, and you can read it in a couple of minutes.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small piece of text that a site asks your browser to keep and to send back on a later visit. A related feature, called local storage, lets a site keep a small value in your browser without sending it anywhere. Both are ordinary tools, and both can be used to track people across sites. This site uses neither for tracking.

What this site keeps

Exactly one small flag. When you dismiss the notice about cookies, the site records a value in your browser's local storage so that the notice does not appear again. That flag holds a single word — a note that you have dismissed the notice — and it contains no personal information. It stays in your browser, and it is never sent anywhere.

What this site does not do

Why there is nothing to consent to

Because nothing here tracks you, there is nothing for a consent banner to switch on or off. The notice you see is simply a courtesy: it explains what the single flag is for and gives you a way to dismiss it. Dismissing it changes nothing about how the site behaves, other than to stop the notice appearing.

How to remove the flag

You can clear the flag at any time by clearing website data in your browser's settings. In most browsers this is found under a privacy or storage section, where you can remove data for this site, or for all sites. Clearing it will bring the notice back on your next visit, and nothing else will change.

Your choices

Your browser may also let you block local storage or cookies altogether. If you do, the notice will keep appearing, because the site cannot remember that you dismissed it. That is the only consequence. Every guide on this site remains readable, because none of them depends on the flag.

Changes

If we ever change what the site stores, we will update this page and the date at the top, and we will describe the change plainly. We would rather keep this policy short than let it drift out of step with what the site actually does.

Questions

If you have a question about cookies or about what this site keeps, write to [email protected], or see the privacy policy for the fuller account of how personal information is handled.
